Best entry-level DSLR

If you've been sitting on the sidelines, waiting until you could afford a real Nikon DSLR, your time have come at last: While geared for the entry-level market the D40 packs enough features into its diminutive frame to keep serious enthusiasts interested as well. It's also the smallest and lightest Nikon DSLR to date, so the point & shoot photographer looking to move up to a real SLR, can do so without having to put up with the heft and bulk that the genre usually dictates. And like all consumer SLRs on the market, you can still point & shoot.
With the introduction of the D40, Nikon has outmaneuvered everyone. They've produced a small, light, high quality digital camera that gives the consumer everything they need and more, at a price that's hard to resist.

No matter where you look at, the nikon D40 is the real winner!

My top picks on LCDs/PLASMAS as of April 2007

Most of them are already in the market quite some time now. In the next couple of months most of the big brands will present the market with their new line ups(hd ready and full hd with 100Hz). Nevertheless these are my favorites models and if you cannot wait, or if you are looking for a bargain, in a couple of months... most of them will be propably cheaper.

Samsung LE40M86BD Review (also available in 46)

LCD screens are well-known for their matte quality, so when Samsung did a reverse and fitted their recently launched LE40M86BD with a Super Clear Panel™ reflective screen, we just had to get our hands on one to test it out. Does it improve the picture quality as promised? Or does it spoil your enjoyment with unavoidable glare?

Recommended ultra compact cameras

Sony DSC T9
The Sony DSC T9 is a pocket sized digital camera. This is a six megapixel model with a 3x optical zoom lens. All in all the DSC T9 is pretty straightforward. It is a standard point and shoot model with a good build quality and stylish design. It is one of the more expensive digital cameras of its kind. Therefore it is likely to appeal to someone who is looking for a quality, easy to use camera and does not mind paying that bit more for a top of the range model.
Image Quality:There is a lot to like about the DSC T9. I was very impressed by the camera when it came to picture quality......more on http://www.cameras.co.uk/details/sony-dsc-t9.cfm

Casio Exilim EX-Z750
The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 is a stylish ultra compact digital camera. It is a seven megapixel camera with a three times optical zoom. It differs from the typical ultra compact camera as it has a number of extra features including fully manual exposure. As well as taking advantage of these controls you can use the Exilim EX-Z750 as a straightforward point and shoot camera as well. Therefore this type of camera may appeal to families who are looking for the convenience of ease of use and portability and also have someone who would like to have access to the more advanced features.
Image Quality: I managed to produce a number of very pleasing images with the Exilim EX-Z750. All the test photos turned out well and there are no shots that ......more onhttp://www.cameras.co.uk/details/casio-exilim-ex-z750.cfm

Pentax Optio S5z
The Pentax Optio S5z is an ultra compact digital camera. This type of camera is very small and slips easily into a pocket or small bag. You can take it anywhere ready for a quick photo opportunity. The Optio S5z is a five megapixel model with a three times optical zoom lens. This is a fairly standard set up for an ultra compact camera. Operating the camera is straightforward and it is likely to appeal to the casual photography who takes photos for fun rather than a more serious photographer.
Image Quality: This is the first Pentax digital camera that I have reviewed and I was not sure what to expect. I shouldn't have worried as I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of images produced ...... more onhttp://www.cameras.co.uk/details/pentax-optio-s5z.cfm

Panasonic DMC FX9
The Panasonic DMC FX9 is a six megapixel digital camera with a three times optical zoom lens. It is a very sleek and stylish model and is just about small enough to fit into any pocket. One of the main attractions of the DMC FX9 is its ease of use. Therefore this camera is likely to appeal to anyone who is looking for a simple point and shoot model, but is prepared to pay more for the attractive design and build quality. This camera also offers optical image stabilisation.
Image Quality: Overall the pictures I managed to take with the DMC FX9 are a very solid set..... more on http://www.cameras.co.uk/details/panasonic-dmc-fx9.cfm

Ultra pocket cameras: My best value for money....

Casio Exilim EX-Z500
The Casio Exilim EX-Z500 is a five megapixel digital camera. It is an ultra compact model. The Exilim EX-Z500 managed to produce a pleasing set of test of photos.Starting with the outdoor scenic type shots the camera handled these well. All the photos are sharp, clear and bright. This camera reproduces colours vividly and the images remain well focused up to the edge. It also copes well with contrasting light and dark areas.
The camera certainly takes good portrait photos too. The skin tones are natural in both the indoor and outdoor shots. The camera will perform well in lowlight conditions in general providing you are not too far away from your subject. The macro test shot is o.k. but, it is not one of the camera's stronger areas. I have become used to seeing sharper images than the Exilim EX-Z500 managed. Therefore if a close-up photography is one of your main criteria for buying a digital camera it is probably advisable to look elsewhere.
Features
- 3x optical zoom lens. 4x digital zoom function. Macro distance is 17 cm.
-For composing pictures there is a large 2.7 inch LCD screen.
Casio digital cameras offer the widest selection of scene modes.
-There is also a setting for anti shake.
-For focusing you can select auto focus, Pan focus, Infinity mode and manual focus
-you can shoot movies with sound. The maximum resolution is 640x 480.

Ease of Use:The menu system itself is one of the easier ones to get to grips with and it should not take you long to find your way around this camera.
Style : The camera comes in a choice of either black or gold or silver. With dimensions of 88.5 x 57 x 20.5mm it is certainly small enough to slip into a pocket.
Summary
There is much to like about the Casio EXILIM EX-Z500. It is a simple, straightforward ultra compact digital camera that takes good shots in a variety of different situations. It is also easy to use and competitively priced. It is well worth considering alongside other ultra compact models.
